What exactly burned you, was it late payment or scope creep?

Oh man, @alexbrown, it's not that simple for me. I've had both happen at the same time, and that's what really burns you. Late payment sucks, but when they keep adding stuff without paying more, it's a double whammy. Honestly, the worst part is when clients act like it's normal. It's like they don't see the value in your work, you know?

How can you even separate those two things? When a client does both at once like @the_willow said, that's when you're truly getting played. It's the combo that kills you. They don't pay on time, then have the nerve to ask for more work for free. That shows a total lack of respect for your time and skill. You start wondering if they'd try that with their doctor or lawyer.
