Update: watched a restoration video where they used a heat gun to strip a veneer tabletop...
They basically cooked the glue and now the veneer is permanently bubbled. Has anyone else seen this 'hack' going around and know a good way to fix it?

Oh man, my buddy tried that exact thing on a dresser. He got impatient and held the heat gun too close in one spot. The veneer turned into a weird, crispy wave that wouldn't lay flat again. He ended up having to sand the whole mess off and paint it.

henderson.kim that story about your buddy is exactly what my friend went through last summer. She was trying to strip an old coffee table and got the heat gun way too close to the edge. The veneer bubbled up into these weird little blisters that looked like someone burned it with a cigarette. She tried to smooth them down with a putty knife but it just made everything worse. Ended up having to sand the whole top down to bare wood and she just painted it a solid color to hide the damage. It's crazy how fast a heat gun can ruin a piece if you're not careful.
