My method for years was just cupping my hands over my ears in a quiet room. Not exactly what you'd call scientific.

What mic do you use? I just test isolation with a white noise machine.

White noise machines can drift in frequency output though, messing up your results. A cheaper pink noise app on a spare phone might give more consistent levels.
