My kid's 'pretty rock' from the park turned out to be a piece of petrified wood

Last week, my youngest brought home a greyish lump from the playground in Denver. I almost tossed it, but the grain looked weird, so I took it to the geology department at the community college. The professor confirmed it's a chunk of petrified wood, probably from the Denver Formation, and now it's our new favorite kitchen counter rock. Anyone else have a kid's find that turned out to be way cooler than expected?

Saw a documentary once where a kid found a dinosaur bone in his backyard. That petrified wood is a legit cool find.

My kitchen counter is a total mess right now. Got a blender, three mail packages, and a bag of onions. The lighting is terrible too, makes everything look yellow. Would need to clean for an hour before a photo.
