Just found out how much glass a big office building actually uses

I was reading an article about a new skyscraper going up downtown, and it said they're using over 5,000 individual panes of glass for the curtain wall. That's a crazy number to picture. It made me think about the sheer scale of the cutting, tempering, and sealing work that goes into a single project. Has anyone here ever worked on a job that big?

Actually think that number is pretty normal for a big building. The glass is just part of the shell, and they make it in huge batches. The real scale is in the steel frame or the concrete work behind it.

That's a wild amount of glass. Can't even imagine the shipping bill for that.

Yeah the shipping bill on big glass orders is no joke. I had a project last year that needed a lot of custom panels. I saved a ton by using a freight broker instead of going direct with the glass company. They shopped around and found a much better rate with a regional carrier.
