Warning: permanent marker on white garden gnomes fades fast in direct sun
I labeled my gnome's bottom with a sharpie to keep track of where I placed him, but after 3 weeks in a sunny spot the writing was totally gone. Next time I'm using a paint pen or engraving tool so I don't have to re-mark everything every month. Has anyone else had their gnome ID markings vanish like that?

I had the exact same thing happen with three of my gnomes last summer. I wrote their names on the bottom with a black sharpie in June and by August the marks were completely gone from the ones sitting in the flower bed that gets full afternoon sun. The one that stays in the shade under my porch still has clear writing on it though. Did you try a different marker type for your concrete gnome when you redid it?

Honestly I've been there too. Wrote the date I bought a little concrete gnome on the bottom with a plain sharpie and it was gone in like two weeks. But here's what I'm wondering - did you maybe put it on a part that gets rubbed against the ground when you move it around? Because I noticed the ones I set on gravel lost ink way faster than the ones on the dirt. The friction seemed to wear away the mark even before the sun had a chance to fade it. What kind of surface is yours sitting on?
