Tried to speedrun Ocarina of Time and got wrecked by a cucco

So I thought I'd be slick and do the cucco feather skip to get past Death Mountain early. Spent like 20 minutes getting the timing down only to realize I was on the wrong game version and it doesn't work on mine. Ended up stuck in a loop of chickens attacking me for 10 more minutes while I panicked. Learned my lesson about checking patch notes before attempting glitches lol. Anyone else waste hours on a speedrun trick that just flat out failed?

Saw a video last week where a guy broke down the exact frame data for that skip. Apparently it only works on version 1.0 carts from late 98. My buddy has a gold cart and tried it for hours before figuring that out. The whole chicken mechanic is brutal in that game too, the aggro radius is way bigger than people think. I bet half the speedrun community has a similar story about wasting a whole night on some glitch that got patched out.
