Back in the day, we didn't have backup cameras and I once nudged a gas line.

Tbh, that scare taught me to always double-check markings, no matter how rushed the job is.

Yeah, that's the kind of mistake that sticks with you. After a close call on a job site years back, I made a hard rule to always walk the area myself before any equipment moves. I even keep a can of spray paint in my truck to mark my own lines if the utility markings look faded or wrong. It adds five minutes to the start of a day, but it's saved me from hitting a water line at least once. That little bit of extra time is nothing compared to the mess you're avoiding.

But sometimes those extra steps can make a tight schedule impossible to meet.

Honestly, nudging a gas line sounds like a pretty big deal. That seems like the kind of mistake that could have ended very badly. Maybe the real lesson is that some jobs just shouldn't be rushed at all. Calling that just a scare feels like downplaying it.
