Weird service call today about 'haunted' air conditioner
Homeowner swore their unit was making spooky noises at night. I found a simple loose panel, but they're convinced it's something supernatural. How do you deal with customers who have wild ideas about their systems?

Ever feel weird about pretending along with those supernatural fixes, like does it bother you to basically trick people who clearly believe in that stuff? I mean you solved the real issue but the little show feels kinda dishonest even if it keeps them happy. Where do you draw the line between customer service and just feeding into their delusion?

Yeah, it's a weird dance we do in lots of areas, not just fixing stuff. Like pretending to care about a coworker's boring dream because it matters to them. We're just trying to keep things peaceful by going along with harmless beliefs. As long as you're not scamming anyone, sometimes the kindest thing is to just nod and smile.

Had a lady once who was sure her furnace was whispering. I tightened a vibrating duct joint but also "blessed" the unit with a spray bottle of water near the filter. Told her it was holy water for HVAC systems. She loved it and never called back about ghosts. Sometimes you just play along a little after fixing the real problem. What's the strangest fix you've done to make a customer happy?
