My bench vise mount is rock solid now
Had to reinforce the table edge for stability. Used a heavy-duty bracket from the hardware store. Now it doesn't wobble when I'm setting stones. Such a relief.

Reading @veraf75's comment about launching gems, I totally get it. I mean, I had a vise that wobbled so bad it made sharpening tools a nightmare. What worked for me was bolting a thick piece of plywood to the bottom of the table, right under the vise mount. That way, the force gets spread out and the whole top doesn't flex. Idk, maybe it's just me, but adding that extra layer made all the difference. Now I can set stones without everything shaking apart.

Did you ever shrug off a bit of vise wobble too? I used to think it was just annoying, but seeing how much better things go with a solid setup changed my mind. Now I realize that stability isn't just nice, it's necessary for good work.

Ever notice how a solid mount needs more than just a good bracket? I see you fixed the edge, but the whole tabletop needs to be sturdy too. A bracket on a weak surface just moves the wobble to a different spot. I learned that the hard way when my whole bench started leaning. Did you check if the table legs or the center of the top are just as solid?

Wait a second, you were setting stones with a wobbly vise before? That sounds like a great way to launch a gem across the room. Seriously, that must have been so annoying to deal with. How long were you putting up with that shaky mess?
