Dropped $45 on a 2am gas station sushi platter last night and honestly no regrets
I was starving after closing out the books late and that little plastic tray of spicy tuna rolls looked way too good at the time. Has anyone else taken a gamble on convenience store sushi and come out either alive or absolutely wrecked?

@davis.casey that pickled ginger trick cover up anything or just make it worse?

Used to think the pickled ginger thing was just a gimmick or part of the whole "presentation" thing. Then I got stuck with a gas station spicy tuna roll last year on a road trip, and the rice had this weird almost stale taste. I tried a bit of the ginger and it honestly did help cut through that off flavor. Still wouldn't recommend it as a regular thing, but for emergencies or a dare it's better than nothing.

Gas station sushi is a roulette wheel for sure but sometimes you just gotta spin it. My buddy dared me to try a 7-Eleven California roll back in college and honestly it was fine, just a little dry. The trick I found was grabbing a soy sauce packet and some of that pickled ginger they usually have near the hot dogs, it masked whatever weirdness was going on with the rice texture.
