Why I finally swapped out my 10 year old macro lens for a phone lens adapter

For years I shot every old meme remake on a clunky DSLR with a macro lens, thinking it gave me that crisp detail. Last month I tried adapting a phone lens to the same rig after my dog knocked the macro off the table. The adapter cost me $15 and suddenly my low-light meme recreations came out way sharper. Has anyone else switched from traditional gear to phone adapters for their vault remixes?

Oh man I gotta push back hard on this one. I tried a phone lens adapter for like two weeks last year and the quality drop was insane. The glass on those cheap adapters is never as good as a dedicated macro lens, you get all this weird blurring around the edges. I was shooting a vault meme with a leaf detail and the center was okay but the corners looked like I smeared Vaseline on the lens. Plus the mounting mechanism on mine was super finicky, it kept shifting mid shot and ruining the focus. Maybe you got lucky with your $15 find but I'd rather save up for a used proper macro than deal with that headache again.
