I think we are all way too obsessed with steam cleaning these things
I see everybody on here recommending steam cleaning for every single curb couch, but I found a 70s floral print sectional last week and tried it. Steam just baked the old stains into the fabric, made them look worse. Had better luck with a $8 spray bottle of diluted dish soap and a stiff brush, scrubbed it outside for 20 minutes. Has anyone else dealt with old polyurethane foam that just disintegrates when you hit it with heat?

Steam just baked the old stains into the fabric" - did you happen to test on a hidden spot first, or did you just go full blast with the steamer?

Oh man, I did the exact same thing with my mom's old armchair. I got so excited about the steamer I just went straight for it without testing, and it turned this gross yellowish sweat stain into a permanent dark shadow that looks even worse now. It's like the heat set the dirt deeper into the fabric instead of lifting it out. Ruined a perfectly good piece of furniture and learned my lesson the hard way. Now I'm super paranoid and test everything on a spot behind a cushion first.
