That guy on Facebook Marketplace was right about the foam cushions

Found this weird mustard yellow couch on the curb in Austin last month. Some guy named Mike in the free stuff group told me to spray it with rubbing alcohol before even bringing it inside. I thought he was being paranoid but did it anyway and like 30 dead bugs crawled out of the seams. Then he said to replace the foam because old couch foam traps sweat and smells even after cleaning. I didn't listen and now after 3 weeks my living room smells like a gym locker. Anybody else had to re-foam a curbside find even after a good clean?

I read somewhere that cheap foam only lasts about two years before it starts breaking down.

Nah, I gotta push back on that a little. Honestly, cheap foam can be hit or miss, but two years is a worst case scenario. I've got a couple of cheap camping pads that are still going strong after four or five seasons, just a little less plush than day one. The key is keeping it dry and not leaving it compressed in a hot car for months at a time. A buddy of mine left his in his trunk all summer and it turned into a crumbly mess, but that's user error, not the foam's fault. Tbh, if you're not abusing it, most cheap stuff will hold up way longer than two years.
