I finally bid on a screen-used prop from a forgotten 80s action movie

Last month I won an auction for a prop knife from 'Death Chase' (1988), a cheap B-movie I loved as a kid. The seller's photos looked legit, but when it arrived the blade had a noticeable wobble and a chipped handle. I learned to always ask for a video of the prop being handled before bidding, especially for older films where the props weren't built to last. Has anyone else gotten a damaged prop and had to decide between keeping it or fighting for a refund?

Yeah and sorta going off what @jason112 said, sometimes the hassle of returning a busted prop isn't worth it if the key parts still look good enough to display. I ended up keeping my wobbly Death Chase knife just because the screen-matched scuffs on the blade were still there, so it still felt like the real deal from my favorite forgotten movie.

...and tbh I learned that lesson the hard way too but with a different kind of collectible. I bought a vintage metal lunchbox from the 80s on eBay and when it showed up the latch was completely smashed and the seller tried to play it off like "that's just how they look after 40 years." I ended up keeping it because the artwork was still cool and I didn't want the hassle of shipping it back. But man I still get annoyed every time I see that cracked plastic handle.
