That Prop Auction Guy Nearly Ruined My Blade Runner Blaster

I had this run-in at a small prop auction in Columbus last spring. This one guy kept telling everyone that the blaster I was eyeing was a replica cast from a later run, not a screen-used piece. He was loud about it, saying stuff like "don't waste your cash, it's a recast." I did my own research beforehand though, checked the serial against a sold list from 2017. Turned out he was just trying to scare off bidders so he could grab it cheap. Has anyone else dealt with a loudmouth who tries to fake authority at these events?

Walking away and letting them win the bid can backfire too. I had one try that once, so I just smiled and let him overpay for a piece I knew was a recast from a bad mold.

The thing nobody talks about though is how these recast sellers often have multiple accounts and they all know each other. So when you let one overpay for a bad recast, he's probably going to badmouth you to his buddies. But honestly, I'd rather have that rep than be the guy who gets played by a bid bluffer. The real game here is reputation management, not just the sale price.
