My favorite coffee mug shattered in the sink this morning and I actually got mad at the sponge

That sponge has no idea what it did wrong, but it better watch its back. I've had the same thing happen with a mug my daughter gave me years ago, and I was not happy with the dish rack for a solid week. What helped me was finding a replacement that felt similar in weight and shape, then keeping the old one's handle as a little memento on my desk. @ellis.victor is right about getting attached to mugs, they really do become part of the routine. Maybe your best bet is to wrap the pieces in a paper towel and set it aside until you cool down, then decide what to do. That way you aren't throwing away a memory while you're still mad at the sponge.

Wait, were you like actually mad at the sponge itself or just mad at the universe and the sponge happened to be right there? Because I've totally been there where something small goes wrong and suddenly I'm blaming the most random object in the room. Was it a favorite mug you've had for a while or just one you really liked? The way we get attached to specific mugs is honestly kinda wild, like they become part of the morning routine.
