Vent: I used to defend pineapple on pizza until I tried a Hawaiian with canned ham at a potluck in Akron last Saturday

That gloppy sweet stuff mixed with that weird slimy ham texture made me rethink my whole stance, has anyone else had a bad experience with a specific ingredient that ruined a whole topping for you?

Well I think the real problem here is that you were in Akron. That explains a lot. Canned ham at a potluck is a red flag all by itself, nobody should be surprised when that goes sideways. Real Hawaiian pizza with fresh ham and good cheese is a totally different animal. But I get it, one bad experience can ruin a whole topping for you. I still can't eat eggplant parmesan after someone brought a soggy version to a church supper back in 2008. Sometimes the setting is half the problem.

Right, Julias point about the setting being half the problem is spot on. A bad potluck is basically the final boss of ruined food memories, it can make you swear off anything that came within ten feet of a crock pot. One encounter with cold, congealed cheese sauce and I still can't look at nachos the same way.
