Overheard an air traffic controller say they're getting fewer visual approaches called in lately

That means more planes are flying longer instrument approaches for no weather reason, so if you're spotting at a smaller airport, get there earlier because the traffic pattern might be shifting and you'll miss the good stuff has anyone else noticed this change at their local field?

Oh man, I've been noticing this same kind of thing everywhere lately. It's like everything is getting more strict and rule-based even when it doesn't need to be. I mean, at my local grocery store they just added a whole new self-checkout policy where you can't buy more than 10 items, and it's always dead in there anyway. Same with the drive-through at the coffee shop near me - they added a whole extra lane and now everyone gets confused and things actually take longer. Maybe it's just me but it feels like people are putting in all these extra steps and procedures without really thinking if it makes things better or just more complicated. The air traffic thing sounds exactly like that, adding more formal approaches when the old way worked fine.

oh please, it's not that deep. a grocery store adding a 10-item limit to a lane that nobody uses anyway? like, who cares. that's just them trying to look busy or something. and the coffee drive-through thing, yeah it's annoying but it's not like the world is falling apart because of it. sometimes people just tweak stuff for no real reason and it's whatever.
