Tried editing my spotting photos for 3 hours before realizing the lens cap was slightly dirty
I spent a GOOD 3 hours yesterday cleaning dust off my shots of a 737-800 landing at PDX, thinking it was sensor grime. Turns out I just had a smudge on my 70-300mm that I didn't bother wiping before the session. Anyone else waste way too much time fixing the wrong thing?

That whole "slightly dirty lens cap" bit hit too close to home. Read a thread on Reddit where a guy did the same thing with his 100-400mm, spent all night removing spots in Lightroom, and it was just a greasy fingerprint. Honestly, always check the front element first, saves you so much headache later.

Buddy of mine spent two days removing a single dust spot from every frame of a wedding shoot, only to figure out it was a tiny scratch on his UV filter. He even bought a whole new camera body out of frustration first before noticing the filter. Ever cleaned something that wasn't even the problem and still felt like you lost a week of your life?
