Serious question, why did the finale of Cooking Showdown have such a messed up judging call?

I was rooting for the underdog chef all season, and the judges gave the win to someone who BURNED their main dish. It made zero sense and felt like pure producer meddling. Now the whole season feels rigged, and I'm honestly done with the show. What a letdown after weeks of watching.

Remember that baking show a few years back where the mixer broke? The person who won totally messed up their bake's texture, but the judges loved their flavor story. It just seems like the big finale sometimes picks narrative over the actual food on the plate.
