That cheap ribbon mic I grabbed off Amazon is just a paperweight now
I picked up a no-name ribbon mic for $40 thinking I found a budget vocal secret. Plugged it in and got maybe 5 minutes of quiet audio before it just went dead. Opened it up and the ribbon element was basically aluminum foil on a popsicle stick. Has anyone here had luck with a sub-$100 ribbon mic that actually holds up?

That "aluminum foil on a popsicle stick" made me laugh out loud, same thing happened to me with a $30 one. I found a used MXL ribbon for $80 on Craigslist and it's still kicking after two years, so maybe hunt for a name brand that's been dropped a few times.
