My uncle swore that old lamp was haunted, guess what happened next?

So my uncle Gary told me to keep that 1970s lava lamp I found in the attic because it had "good energy" from our grandma. I brought it down to my living room in Austin and the thing started flickering and making clicking noises every night around 3am. After a week I threw it out and the weird sounds stopped completely. Anyone else have a family member give terrible advice about junk you should trash?

Threw out a similar lamp my aunt insisted was "protective" and my smokes alarms went off the next week from a short in the wiring. People forget old electrical stuff from the 70s wasn't built to last this long and can literally catch fire. Grandma probably kept it because it matched her decor, not because it had special powers. That clicking noise you heard was likely the thermal switch failing or the bulb socket corroding. Sometimes family members just want you to hold onto their memories even when the actual object is a hazard. You did the right thing tossing it.

Used to have a lava lamp from a garage sale that would hum louder the closer you got to it. My buddy swore it was possessed but really the base was just loose and vibrating against the shelf.
