Old toolbox from my granddad had a 1960s soldering iron still in the box
I was clearing out the basement last weekend and found my granddad's old Craftsman toolbox from 1964. Inside was a Weller soldering iron still wrapped in the original paper. I plugged it in just to see if it worked and it heated up in about 90 seconds. My new $30 iron from Amazon takes forever to get hot and the tip is already corroded. Has anyone else found old tools that actually work better than modern stuff?

My 80s Weller still outlasts everything I've bought since, go figure.

Two Weller 80s irons and both still going. Meanwhile my new soldering station died after six months, guess the old stuff had something in the water back then. Must be nice when things actually last longer than a warranty period.
