TIL I was putting my VHS tapes in wrong for 20 years

My dad handed me his old Panasonic VCR last month and I loaded a tape. He goes what are you doing, you're putting the label side facing up. Turns out every single VHS I ever used I had the tape door facing down. The tip off was when he showed me his manual from 1985 with a diagram. Has anyone else had a basic tech habit that was just completely backwards?

Hear me out because I felt the exact same way when I found out too. I thought I was doing it right for years and then someone showed me a different way that just clicked. Now I look back and honestly cringe a little at how much time I wasted doing it wrong. But hey, your mileage may vary and it really depends on what you're trying to get out of it. For me it was game changing once I switched things up, even though it felt weird at first. Give yourself a minute to unlearn the old habit and see if the new way feels more natural.
