My Model M went from mushy to crispy after a bolt mod last weekend
I finally did the bolt mod on my 1987 IBM Model M after years of it feeling like typing on wet newspaper. The difference is night and day - the buckling springs actually snap now instead of crunching. Has anyone else tried this or am I crazy for thinking it's worth the 3 hours of drilling?

Three hours of drilling sounds about right for one bolt mod, but I bet your fingers are thanking you now. My 1992 Model M was so bad before I did it that I thought something had died inside the case and turned into a sponge. The difference is honestly ridiculous, like someone swapped out the springs while I wasn't looking. I still have a few scars on my hands from where the drill slipped, but totally worth it. You aren't crazy, just part of the club that knows a little pain is worth fixing a classic.

Did you get the satisfying little pop from the springs unsticking too? That sound alone made the whole drilling worthwhile for me.
