Watched a guy at the record fair pull a Beatles butcher cover out of a $1 bin and walk away like it was nothing

This was last weekend at the St. Paul record fair. I'd been digging through boxes for an hour and came up with nothing special. Then I see this younger guy, probably early 20s, flip through a box marked 'misc 70s pop' and he pulls out a copy of Yesterday and Today with the trunk cover. I saw the price sticker - $1. He paid and left before I could even say anything. I've been hunting for one of those for 5 years now. Has anyone else had a find slip through their fingers like that?

Did you try offering him cash on the spot?

Feel for you man, that's brutal. @brooke484 I don't think I'd have even had time to react, the guy was out the door like he knew exactly what he had. I've had a similar thing happen with a first press of Kind of Blue at a garage sale, watched a dude grab it right before I could reach for it. Hurts way worse when you've been hunting something specific for years.
