Pro tip: I finally stopped over-tightening the cap on my homemade spray bottle contraption
For months I was trying to build this super simple gadget that lets me spray my plants with a mix of neem oil and water, but every time I'd screw the bottle top on tight, the spray nozzle would clog up after two uses. I thought the issue was the cheap bottle or the oil settling, so I wasted maybe $12 on different bottles and nozzles from the hardware store on Main Street. Then last Wednesday, I was in a rush after watering and just left the cap barely twisted on, like a quarter turn loose. Next morning, the spray worked PERFECT for a whole week without a single clog. Turns out I was creating too much pressure inside the bottle by sealing it tight, and that was forcing the thick oil residue into the tiny nozzle holes. Now I just keep the cap loose when I store it and tighten only before using, and it's like a whole different gadget. Has anyone else run into a weird pressure issue with their homemade sprayers or cleaning tools that made you feel dumb after you figured it out?

You're telling me you spent $12 on bottles for NO REASON? That's just WRONG. I swear half the battle with any homemade contraption is figuring out some stupid little detail that you'd never think of until it slaps you in the face. Loose cap trick is genius though, I bet that pressure was building up like a soda bottle you shook up. I've had spray bottles where I over-tightened the trigger mechanism and it leaked all down my arm, drove me NUTS for three weeks before I realized I was just cranking it down too hard. Now I just hand tighten everything and it works fine. Makes me wonder how many OTHER simple fixes I'm missing because I'm too busy trying to brute force something.

Man that spray bottle thing hit way too close to home. I had the exact same problem with a mister I use for my seedlings, drove me up the wall for like a month before I figured out I was just tightening it too much. It's crazy how the smallest stuff can mess everything up.
And yeah, the loose cap trick is one of those things that seems so obvious in hindsight but you'd never think of it until someone points it out. I bet there's a dozen other little fixes like that in every project that we just stumble into by accident. It makes you wonder what else you're overcomplicating because you're too focused on the big picture.
