I finally saw why you don't cheap out on brake pads the hard way

It was about 6 months ago on I-35 outside Austin, traffic suddenly stopped and I hit the brakes at 65 mph. The pedal went almost to the floor and the car just kept sliding forward, I barely stopped in time by swerving onto the shoulder. Turns out those $20 Autozone special pads had glazed over after just 3 months of daily driving. Has anyone else had cheap pads turn into hockey pucks at the worst possible moment?
