Realized my dog was trying to tell me something for 3 years before I got it

My golden retriever Bella always pawed at her water bowl before drinking, and I thought she was just being silly. Then last week I noticed the bowl had a tiny crack that made the water taste like metal. She was trying to warn me about bad water the whole time. Has anyone else's pet tried to alert them to something obvious in hindsight?

Well I'll be. Three years that dog was trying to tell you and you just thought she was playing around. My old lab did something similar with his food bowl once, kept pushing it across the kitchen floor and barking. I finally realized after a month that the bowl had a chip on the edge that was cutting his tongue when he ate. Felt like a real fool when I figured it out, I can only imagine how you felt after three whole years.

That story about the bowl is wild (and sad honestly). Makes you wonder how many times our pets try to tell us stuff and we just miss it completely. My cat once spent two weeks staring at a specific spot on the wall before I finally noticed a leak was dripping behind the drywall.
