My pond dredge side project is one clog after another

I decided to build a small dredge for my garden pond to clear out the muck, and it's been nothing but problems. The pump I got online says it's for heavy slurry, but it stalls out on the first thick patch. I rigged up a suction head with some pipe and a screen, but leaves and twigs jam it every time. After three weekends of tinkering, I still can't get a steady flow without something blocking it. It's maddening because I see the big rigs you all run and think my little version should be simpler. This was supposed to be a cool way to learn more about how dredges work, but now I just have a muddy mess. Maybe I'm missing a basic trick, like how to set up the intake better. At this point, I'm close to dumping the whole idea and calling a pro.

Drilling a well and hitting a pocket of natural fizzy water

Last week, we were out near the old mill property putting down a test well, expecting the usual sand and gravel layers. At around 120 feet, the pressure gauge spiked and the drill pipe started vibrating like a soda can shaken up. When we pulled back, this geyser of sparkling water shot out, drenching everyone and leaving a frothy mess all over the rig. My assistant thought it was a leak in the air line, but after tasting it, we realized it was naturally carbonated. The client came running over, convinced we'd struck some kind of underground champagne vault. We had to explain aquifer chemistry on the spot while wiping sticky mineral residue off our faces. Now I keep a pack of cups in the truck just in case we hit another fizzy zone. Honestly, it was the most refreshing mishap I've had in years.

A lesson learned from ignoring my posture during a long haul repair

Ever notice how the pain sneaks up on you in tiny stages instead of all at once? Like you'll feel a little tight but think "it's fine," then two hours later you're locked up like a rusty hinge. Our brains are SO good at tuning out the body's whispers until it's full-on yelling. Setting that hard timer like you did is genius because it fights that urge to just push through. I'm trying to be better about listening to the small aches before they turn into a whole thing.

Witnessed a stranger banking on open Wi-Fi at the cafe yesterday

Read an article last week about a guy who lost his savings from a Starbucks hack. If I witnessed that, I'd definitely say something. Better to risk a weird look than let them get robbed.
