Finally figured out I was watching Clarissa Explains It All totally wrong as a kid

I was talking with my sister last weekend and she mentioned how Clarissa always broke the fourth wall... I had never even noticed that. For like 25 years I thought she was just talking to herself or to the audience by accident. It clicked when she said 'she's literally talking to you, the viewer' and I felt so dumb. All those episodes I watched after school and I missed the whole point of her explaining stuff. Has anyone else had a late realization about a show they thought they knew inside and out?

Oh man, you're not wrong there. I once spent a solid 20 minutes looking for my phone while I was actually talking on it to my mom. She was very patient, just sitting there listening to me huff and puff around the house, probably thinking I was losing my mind. That's the kind of obvious that should come with a neon sign, but no, my brain just decided to take a coffee break. It's almost impressive how good I am at missing things that are literally right in front of my face. Life really does have a sense of humor about it, doesn't it?
