My dad told me "Pay attention to the background music" during The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie and he was totally right about what it adds to a fight scene.

I used to just skip through the slower parts until I actually listened to the orchestral hits during the Ivan Ooze battle, and now I can't unhear how much the score actually carries the tension in the final showdown has anyone else noticed the music in their old favorite shows was way better than they remembered?

Oh man, my dad said the exact same thing to me when I was watching the Power Rangers movie on VHS back in the day... I never paid attention to the score until he pointed out how the music swells right when Tommy calls his falcon. Now I notice it in everything, even the old TV episodes where the background music adds so much to the combat. The Ivan Ooze fight really does have this driving beat that makes the punches feel heavier than they should be. It's wild how much better some of those old soundtracks are than the actual dialogue in places.

The orchestral hits during Tommy's falcon call are actually what made me tear up as a kid, even though I didn't understand why at the time. I rewatched that fight last year and the drums kicking in right before the zords combine gave me goosebumps all over again. The old Power Rangers composers really knew how to make a punch land harder than it should, and the Ivan Ooze track is probably the best example of that in the whole franchise.
