Realized my "dark room" trick was sabotaging my naps for 5 years
I used to think the darker the room, the better the nap, so I'd layer two blankets over my windows and stuff towels along the bottom of the door. Last Tuesday I woke up from a 35 minute nap with that awful headache and groggy feeling, and I noticed the room felt stuffy, like the air was heavy. Turns out I was basically sleeping in a sealed box, and the poor air quality was messing with my sleep cycle. I cracked the window about 2 inches, left one blanket up but ditched the towels, and my last three naps have been noticeably cleaner wake-ups, no head fog at all. I'm in Seattle so the light drizzle actually makes it feel cozier too, which is a bonus. Anyone else ever confuse dark with airtight and pay for it later?
Remember that headache might also be from the nap being too long, not just the air. I used to do the same thing with blankets and learned the hard way that 20 to 30 minutes is the sweet spot for me, anything past that and I'm wrecked for hours.
