PSA: The day I stopped using WD-40 on everything and switched to actual lubricants

Used to grab the blue and yellow can for everything - hinges, seat tracks, even drawer slides at home. Then a senior mechanic at Phoenix Sky Harbor last year watched me spray it on a flap jackscrew and just shook his head. Told me WD-40 is a solvent, not a lube, and I was basically washing away the real grease. Switched to LPS-2 that same week. Has anyone else made this mistake or am I the only one who thought it was a cure-all?

Yeah I was totally one of those people who thought WD-40 fixed everything from squeaky doors to bike chains. I remember being so annoyed when my friend told me it wasn't a real lubricant, thought he was just being a snob about it. Then I actually tried proper grease on my garage door tracks and realized how much difference it makes, stuff actually stays put instead of dripping off after a week. You're definitely not alone in that trap, the marketing is way too good at making it sound like magic in a can.

White lithium grease is the real WD-40, @emery965.
