The day a $0.25 cotter pin grounded a whole shift in Houston

Everyone said the fuel pump was bad after 2 hours of testing, but I checked the cotter pin on the linkage and it had sheared clean off. Something so tiny wasted a full Tuesday of labor and a $1,200 part order for no reason. Has anyone else had a simple fix slip past the whole crew?

Learned that lesson the hard way on a coolant leak once. Whole crew was swapping thermostats and water pumps, turned out it was just a loose hose clamp that took thirty seconds to tighten. Now I always start with the cheap, stupid stuff first.
