Serious question, how do you guys handle old alarm panel batteries?

For years I'd just toss the old 12V 7Ah sealed lead acids in the regular trash, figuring it was fine. Then a client in Seattle last month asked me point-blank about disposal and I had to admit I didn't have a real plan. Now I drop them at the local recycling center, but I'm curious if there's a better system for a small operation like mine.

Totally get it. Had a layer of fast food bags and empty coffee cups in mine that could have been its own ecosystem.
