Chose in-floor heat over a gas furnace for my Calgary reno, no regrets so far
When I finished my basement in Calgary last fall, I had to pick between a high-efficiency gas furnace setup and electric in-floor heating. The in-floor cost about $3,200 more upfront, but I went with it because the space is a home office and my feet freeze all winter. Three months in, the even heat is way better than the dry blasts I used to get, and my hydro bill only went up about $40 a month. The only downside is it takes a few hours to warm up from a cold start, so I leave it on low during the day. Anyone else made this switch and noticed a big difference in comfort or costs?

Oh man, congrats on the choice, I did the same thing in my last place and never looked back. I mean, the warm up time drove me nuts at first too, but once I figured out the schedule on the thermostat it was basically set and forget. My feet used to be like ice cubes in the morning before, now it's actually pleasant to walk around barefoot, which sounds silly but it's a game changer. The $40 bump sounds about right to me, I prob paid something similar in the dead of winter. Honestly, the even heat just feels different, like the whole room is cozy instead of just the air being hot and dry.
