Hot take: my dad's crawlspace vapor barrier job from 1994 outlasted the fancy one I paid $1,800 for in Red Deer
Honestly I used to roll my eyes at how my dad did stuff, like laying 6 mil poly in his crawlspace with nothing but a staple gun and a roll of tuck tape. Last spring I paid a crew $1,800 to do my place in Red Deer with some thick woven stuff and it's already pulling loose at the seams in two spots. His has been down since 1994 and still looks tight, and I think the difference is he overlapped every seam by a good foot and weighed it down with bricks before taping. Ngl I should've just copied him instead of trusting the upsell, so has anyone else had the cheap old school way beat the premium stuff on their own house?
How much did the seams overlap on the fancy stuff compared to your dad's foot overlap? Seems like that overlap gap might be the whole ballgame. Curious if the crew even bothered weighing it down before taping or if they just slapped it up and left.
