Why does nobody act like expired film is a real gamble and not a fun surprise?
I used to toss a roll of expired Portra 400 in my bag for a Fort Worth trip thinking worst case it looks vintage, but every frame came back so muddy and green that I couldn't tell a sunset from a parking garage. Now I meter for the box speed, add a stop, and check the date before anything important, so how are you all rating your old stock?
A whole roll of Portra 400 coming back that green is wild to me, because Portra usually holds up better than most. That trip must have been a letdown after you were expecting vintage vibes at worst, and checking the date first is just smart. Metering for box speed plus a stop sounds like a solid habit for old stock.
