That conversation with my cousin about Vinland Saga really threw me

He said the second season is actually better than the first because it's about healing, not fighting. I always thought season 1 was peak anime action, but he walked me through episode 4 of season 2 where Canute talks about building a paradise on earth. It hit different because he pointed out how the show changes genres halfway through, which I never really noticed before. Anyone else feel like Vinland Saga gets judged too hard for swapping swords for farming?

Man I read some article about this a few weeks back that called Vinland Saga a "deconstruction of the revenge genre" and it finally clicked for me. Season 1 builds up this whole violent revenge fantasy then season 2 just sits you down and says nah that's not how it works. The farming stuff isn't boring it's the whole point like showing how hard real peace is compared to just fighting. Canute's speech about paradise hits way harder when you realize he's basically admitting violence can't build anything lasting. Season 1 is great action sure but season 2 has actual weight to it.

That shift in genre is exactly why Vinland Saga stands out though. A lot of shows talk about growth and change but actually committing to showing that through farming and quiet reflection instead of constant battles is a bold move that pays off.
