Took me 10 years to realize I was reading subtitles wrong

Was watching Akira with a buddy and he pointed out I was reading the subtitles out of order. Turns out I was skipping every other line for like a decade. Ever have one of those moments where everyone else knew something you didn't?

Huh, wait. Is this really that big of a deal? I mean yeah it's kind of funny you were reading them wrong, but did it actually change the movie that much? Most subtitles are just the same dialogue, just written down. Unless you were watching something super complex like Primer or something, I bet you still got the gist of the story. People act like this is some life-changing revelation but honestly you probably just missed a few character names or minor plot points. It's not like you were watching a foreign film and suddenly the entire plot made sense after a decade.

Wait @haydenp95, have you actually watched a movie where subtitles straight up mishear things though? lol It's not always just the same dialogue written down, sometimes they guess wrong or the audio is messy and they write something totally different. Like in that one scene in The Dark Knight where Bane says "for you," the subs actually say "for you" but his voice is so muffled some people hear "for you" as "for me" and it changes the whole power dynamic of that moment. It's a small thing but it can twist your whole understanding of a character if you're relying on subs in a loud theater or something.
