Tried watching Attack on Titan with my 70 year old dad last weekend
He got about 10 minutes in and asked me if the giant naked people were supposed to be scary, then went back to reading his John Grisham novel. Has anyone else had trouble getting older relatives to appreciate the more intense anime series?

Bro honestly same here. I used to be the type who thought everyone just didn't "get" anime if they couldn't handle AoT right away. But then I tried showing my uncle the first episode and he straight up asked if it was a joke when the colossal titan's face appeared. Made me realize how absolutely insane this stuff must look to someone who grew up on like, Johnny Carson and regular TV shows. The giant naked people thing is actually hilarious when you step back and look at it from the outside. So yeah, you're not wrong for being frustrated but also your dad reading Grisham is pretty based tbh.

honestly i think it's not that deep, your dad just wanted to read his book and that's fine. giant naked people chomping on folks is pretty goofy when you think about it, especially if you're not used to anime. not everything has to be this super intense thing for everyone, you know? my aunt walked in during the scene where eren's mom gets eaten and just laughed at the animation style. some people just don't vibe with it and that's okay, doesn't make the show bad or your dad wrong.
