Customer told me their dryer was "just making a little noise"

Got a call last Tuesday from a lady in Arlington who said her dryer was making a little noise. Showed up and the drum glides were completely gone, metal on metal for who knows how long. The back panel had actually worn a groove into the drum itself. Told her it was gonna be around $450 for a new drum and the repair parts. She got mad and said I was trying to upsell her. Ma'am, your dryer is literally eating itself alive. I ended up walking away from the job because she wanted me to just slap some new glides on and ignore the damaged drum. That thing is gonna fail again in two months and she'll blame me. Anyone else run into customers who think they know better than what you can see with your own eyes?

Worst I ever had was a guy who argued his brake pads were fine while sparks were flying out from behind the wheel lmao.

Well hold on, maybe he had a point in a weird way. If the sparks were flying, that means the pads were still making contact with the rotor, so technically the brakes were working. Some people just don't understand that grinding noise and sparks mean the metal backing plate is digging into the rotor, not the pad stopping the car. I've seen folks drive on brakes down to nearly nothing because they thought "if it still stops, it's fine." Plus, replacing pads is expensive for a lot of people, so they might be hoping to squeeze another week out of them. Not saying it's smart, but I can see how someone might talk themselves into it.
