Spent $180 on a ground-penetrating radar rental and found my neighbor's septic tank instead of a Viking burial

Thought I was onto something big in my backyard after finding a weird lump, but the GPR just lit up like Christmas on a plastic pipe 3 feet down. $180 later I just know exactly where not to dig for the next toilet install, anyone else sink cash into a dead-end site scan?

Ever tried renting a cheaper 2-in-1 stud and wire finder first to rule out the obvious stuff?

Wait, you don't think you need the expensive combo tool off the bat? Huh, I always went straight for my big multi-scanner but last time I tried a cheap basic finder first and it saved me a lot of hassle. Definitely changed my mind on that one.

Interesting point about the cheap basic finder working better than expected. Most people overlook that the expensive combo tools can actually miss narrow targets because their sensors are trying to do too many things at once. Sometimes the simplest tool just does one job well, which is why it saved you hassle in the first place.
