The 1980 cookbook that said to arrange grapes in a smiley face pattern really got me thinking
I pulled my mom's old 1983 Better Homes and Gardens snack section off the shelf last weekend and it said to arrange grapes in a smiley face pattern, which is apparently how people plated things back then, so has anyone else seen those weird vintage instructions and tried them just for fun?
Oh man, that takes me back! My grandma had a cookbook from the same era that said to cut bananas into coins and stack them like a tower, which seemed so fancy back then. I actually tried the grape smiley face for a party once and my friends thought I was losing it, but the fruit was gone by the end of the night. Those old plating ideas are goofy but they kinda make food fun in a way we don't do anymore.
