Got talked into a $40 calligraphy set and it's been sitting in my drawer for 6 months

I saw this kit at a craft store near my apartment and the guy working there really sold me on it. Said it would be perfect for making fancy cards and stuff, and I was feeling creative that day. Took it home, tried it once, made a huge mess, and now it's just collecting dust. Has anyone else bought something like this and actually stuck with it long enough to get good?

Read somewhere that most people give up on hobbies after three tries.

Yeah, three tries seems about right... my record is picking up knitting, buying ALL the supplies, making one wonky scarf, and then the needles end up in the back of the closet for three years. Third time's the charm for quitting, I guess? I started painting once, got through two whole canvases before realizing I'd rather just watch Bob Ross instead of actually trying to paint a happy little tree myself.
