Talking to a college kid about paint made me dig out my old palette

I was at a cafe downtown last Tuesday and this art student sat next to me, sketching with a tiny travel set. We got to talking and she said she only owns 6 tubes of paint and mixes everything else. Said she read somewhere that most palettes are just clutter. That hit me different because I've got a shoebox full of half-used tubes from the last 15 years, some of them crusty beyond saving. She offered me her spare brush to try her mixing trick, and it honestly made me rethink how I hoard supplies. I told her about my rack of dried-up acrylics and she laughed, said 'that's not a collection, that's a museum of good intentions.' Has anyone else had a younger artist point out something obvious that you somehow missed for a decade? What did they say?

museum of good intentions" is way too real, that kid basically roasted your whole art supply closet in one sentence. Honestly she's not wrong though, half my paint tubes are just there to make me feel like I'm gonna use them someday.
