My solar inverter fried during a heatwave in Phoenix last month

Totally with you on that @phoenixgonzalez, my charger brick melted in the sun last summer just from sitting on the dash for like an hour. Bad enough that I had to throw it out, but the plastic actually warped and smelled like burning electronics for days. Really makes you wonder how they even pass safety tests sometimes.

That fancy attic fan I installed 2 years ago is still collecting dust

Learned that one the hard way too, seems like half our smart home gadgets are just solving problems we don't actually have.

Came around on using a tag line after a close call in Jersey City

Wait, are you saying you think tag lines aren't worth the hassle either, or just that the wrench story doesn't change your mind about hard hats? I mean, I get what you're saying about paying attention and setting things up right, but even the best guy can get surprised by a random gust or a worn out shackle. It's not always about being careless, sometimes it's just bad luck that a tag line could catch. I've seen guys who swore they had everything perfect still have a load shift on them, and that extra line made the difference between a close call and a trip to the hospital. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have the backup than bet my skull on my own perfection.

I saw a car with my old bumper sticker design and it was faded beyond recognition

Actually UV resistance just protects the ink, not the adhesive that's actually failing there.

My neighbor swore the CTA bus tracker app was useless, now I check it every morning

Something nobody talks about is how these systems are often held together by a single person who actually cares. I'd bet there is one employee at the transit authority who spent six months quietly fixing the backend while everyone else was arguing about budget cuts. Same thing happened with the city bus app back in 2019. Everyone blamed the software but it turned out the data feed was being sent wrong and one guy just rewrote it on his lunch breaks. The second he left for another job it would have broken again and nobody would have known why.
