Walked into an old art supply store downtown and noticed something strange
I was at Mabel's Art & Drafting on 3rd Street yesterday and saw a whole bin of half-used tubes of Windsor blue and burnt sienna labeled 'free.' Has anyone else found random free paint stashes in weird spots like that?

Mabel's has been doing that for years actually - they clear out old stock that's been sitting too long and leave it by the front counter. Just check the tubes aren't dried out before you grab a handful, squeeze the bottom to feel for hard spots. Burnt sienna goes bad faster than ultramarine for some reason.

You know what, @the_julia is dead on about the burnt sienna thing. It's like how the black beans at the bulk store always get chalky way before the kidney beans do. I think it's just a pattern in life that some things are built to last and some aren't, no matter how careful you are. Same with paint, same with produce, same with friendships sometimes. You learn to check for hard spots early or you end up with a mess on your hands lol.
